DMU body shells uses?

I was at an exhibition the other day and there were some Class 108 body shells in OO Gauge for sale. I'm going to need some DMUs at some point, so rather than spending a lot of money on ready to run DMUs, I was wondering if you can buy a body shell, then sort of add wheels and a motor and stuff? If you can, where can you get the necessary parts and how much do they cost?

You can buy motors called Tenshodo and other ones easily, but in many cases it will probably be cheaper buying the complete set. You do get some bargains on used motors at shows and on eBay so you might be able to pick one up at a good price. However, you'll still need a soldering kit to fix the wires together properly.

Generally speaking parts for a complete model cost more than a complete model (if they cost less fewer people would buy the complete model). Where spare bodies can be useful is where the body is of a model you can't get any more. East Kent Models, for example, had a few Pacer bodies in the orange GMPTE livery a few years back and the model had long since sold out.

thanks for the info guess it was lucky i resisted the urge to buy the shells!
