I must admit I wasn't told it was different batches. I would have thought it more logical you let those who have to give one or two month notice periods start in Nov and those who can give short notice start earlier otherwise you could lose the best candidates purely because of their contracual notice period?

I'm purely assuming as I applied for the short notice advert which specified the September start date with all the assessment, interview & medical dates posted. When those dates passed I assumed I'd been unsuccessful and then was invited for assessments a week or so after the last of those dates passed. As I say I'm just assuming there's seperate batches based on the advertised dates and what I was told in interview.

Been three weeks now. What on earth are they going to do when candidates need to give one or even 3 months notice?

Ok spoken to a rather exasperated young guy in HR an hour ago who was apologetic and said that they have two HR staff on holiday for two weeks and they return on Monday. This would possibly explain the delays.

When did you sit your assessments and when were you told you would be starting if successful?

Did he give any indication as to when you would be contacted with the result?

And when being interviewed you are under pressure and this is a part of the interview! You will find that candidates who mention that this is their last chance, fret because they want the job so much, MUST have this job etc. will be under more pressure than a candidate who has a more open mind regarding the role and are more relaxed and not so "I must pass this" attitude. Just an observation folks.

Yes, you are under pressure under interview but there is nothing stopping them from exerting more artificial pressure. You can quite easily put somebody at ease in an interview by being very nice to them, so it would make sense to have somebody on the interviewing panel who would not be as nice. Anybody who more or less begs by mentioning that this is their last chance deserves to fail the interview in my opinion. Never know that to happen before though, I must say

Had DM interview a day before theageofthetra! Start dates were potentially at end of September but they did mention there is a course in October too if I remember correctly!

I'm assuming you mean you'll be told on the 23/9 (not 23/6 lol) and then starting in November? If November you'll be on he same course as myself WHEN we're told we've been successful....PMA working overtime today!!

I don't think it helped at all but it certainly isn't instant fail. It would have been a crime for it to be an instant fail, as there is no reason why I shouldn't be doing this excellent Maintenance Depot Driving role that I am doing now.

No harm in mentioning if it is your last chance and that you really want the job, the problem is when you come over as being utterly desperate as though nothing else matters. That indicates a mental weakness as far as I'm concerned
