there seems to be so much nonsense about a driver manager interview. Surely you treat it like any job interview: Prepare properly, research the role and expectations, research the company, know your stuff, turn up early and look smart. Express confidence.
I am sure a driver can offer detailed advice but for me job interview isnt the part of the process to worry about!
Appreciate all of that, and as you say...it’s just a job interview now.

Exactly what Darlorich has said. I had my DMI prepared using the becoming a train driver page on this site.
It was a week between the DMI and getting the offer/ start date and then a week after that I had my medical.
A DMI is the same as any other job interview. It’ll be largely competency based, so expect to be asked questions surrounding safety and customer service. Safety should form the basis of your answers, as well as customer service. Research the company and be prepared to explain why you want to be a train driver, and what you see as the main attributes of a good driver. Use the STAR technique and be concise in your answers, whilst remaining human (try and come across as serious, at the same time as likeable).
