Are DLR Passenger Service Assistants , classed as driver Grade? I know they are driver less , however they do take control from time to time. However the pay seems to be considerably less than say a driver at Arriva , making me think whether they are classed as drivers in the railway world? Would They be members of ASLEF etc?

Their union is RMT. They are not of the driver grade and they have to do the full driver training.
Why would they have to do the full driving course if they are not classed as driver grade ?
Someone at GA came from being a DLR PSA and one of the reasons he said was because he wanted a proper licence, so I’m assuming no.
Not sure about unions, though.

DLR has it's own, separate rule book. Just as a DLR operator isn't qualified to work on national rail, the opposite is also true.
DLR "PSA's' aren't train drivers in the sense most people think of, it's a very different role. Not one that many people are cut out for in all honesty! It encompasses driving, yes, but only for very short periods or when shunting in depot.
The vast majority of time at work is departing trains safely from the doors while under ATO. Fault finding technician. Fault repair technician. Revenue inspection. Customer service and tourist information. Basically driver/shunter/guard/conductor/ticket inspector all rolled into one!
Psa licence is a hybrid licence only valid in the DLR and not valid anywhere else, it is their own licence. You are a train operator as in you are in charge of the train but you only shunt trains around under instructions of controllers at the same time of all the other duties . Training is only 12 weeks about rules and tractions.
