A swift re-introduction of all those that are at Beckton at least. Some/most of the others are still in Spain aren't they? And at least for the last part of the journey they need to be transported on low-loaders since there's no connection between the National Rail network and the DLR, which makes delivery more complex than the recent delivery of the new Tyne and Wear Metro trains.

Yes, but some of them have already done enough to get into service, albeit not for very long, and having all of them manufactured makes it a lot easier for the new ones to start mileage accumulation. As opposed to ones that haven't yet been built, I mean. :lol:

They've been out on the International branch all weekend. Don't know if they're the same units that were already in service or if they're taking some of the other units out.

Yep.

You’ll be able to see the new DLR trains out on the railway this weekend as they resume testing following the unexpected removal of the trains last year.
A couple of weeks after the first of the new trains entered service last year, a problem occurred when one of them overshot its stopping point. Three of the fleet of 54 new trains had entered service, so all three were removed while the braking issue was investigated.

Since then, engineers have been working to introduce a package of improvements, including braking software upgrades to improve performance under the specific low-rail adhesion conditions experienced during the incident.

Following manufacturer upgrades, the DLR trains will return to the tracks this weekend for live testing on the railway.

However, to allow the tests to take place, the DLR will be closed between Bank and Lewisham, between Tower Gateway and Canning Town, and between Stratford and Canary Wharf.
So for the spotters – if you don’t mind hanging around a bit to see one of the new DLR trains in test mode and do so from a sensible location, such as a road bridge or other safe vantage point – this weekend is your chance.

The current expectation is that the new DLR trains will resume passenger service later this summer.

As I understood the long running issue was a new train (once) overran a stop in wet weather, bit of a shame it's dry this weekend ...

The B23 test trains are fitted with equipment to spray water and adhesion-modifier onto the track so that dry weather isn't a problem.

I thought that sort of thing had been given up, following the first public service after some slippery rails testing had ended went through the buffers at Shepperton.

I'd imagine they'll be doing this sort of testing well away from the ends of the routes? On the other hand, this is TfL we're talking about...

More seriously, given the original issue was an over-run in wet conditions, I can't see there's any point in testing the modifications in anything other than wet conditions and as they only have certain times available for testing, they can't rely on nature to cooperate so thry have no choice but to artificially wetten the rails.

I noticed that the trains on the Beckton branch are running as 3 cars today instead of the usual 2. Are any of the other routes getting this special treatment?

I assume its all because of the London Marathon?

I think that Marathon runners have to register at the Excel Exhibition Centre beforehand and that Saturday is usually the busiest day so 3-car trains on the Beckton branch today would be helpful.

The most recent TfL Board paper related to this says
5.3 We are working closely with all partners to reintroduce the new trains as quickly as possible while ensuring safety remains our absolute priority. This will be supported by an independent review to ensure confidence in our plans. Our outline plan indicates the potential to begin the reintroduction of B23s into passenger service between May and September 2026.

All 54 trains are built, but how long actually takes to update them, deliver them, commission them, and get them into service, could easily be spread over 2 years

The photo is real, units 238 and 211 are out on the railway for testing.

I can confirm I saw a B23 heading back to Beckton Depot earlier. Didn't manage to capture which unit it was tho
