A trivial point which possibly shows how out of touch I am, but what are they doing about the freight that passed through Salisbury? I am not sure how much there is: the only traffic I can think of is stone trains from the Mendips to Eastleigh, Botley, Fareham and Chichester. And it is the off-season for the construction industry.

There's several container services daily, plus 2 Westbury - Eastleigh rtn trippers for NR operations. All services either diverted or curtailed for the duration.

There is also a steam special Saturday supposed to have used the Laverstock loop. Tour website still says they "are closely following the progress of repairs to the track near Salisbury following the incident at the weekend. We do not anticipate that this will affect the tour" but that seems optimistic now. I am booked on that tour, still havent seen any tickets and the STP times have dropped off RTT although a curious Basingstoke to Victoria one has now appeared in the same times as the original ones so maybe they are trying to find an alternative circular route via Portsmouth direct or even Arun Valley.

I presume that the stone trains are running via Melksham and Swindon, round the West Curve at Reading and then down via Winchester to Eastleigh. Going up the Berks & Hants and then having to run round somewhere would presumably tie up everything for quite a while.

Correct, although most of them have been cancelled altogether due to lack of paths/resources.

I've seen the Woking and Botley stone trains and the Wentloog running via Basingstoke, but little else.

Remember back in the 80s, on Sunday evening during westbury blockade, had some Bristol to Portsmouth services diverted from Bath spa via Reading west to Basingstoke then Eastleigh , Fareham . Mega thrash with a 33 on load 4/5 on GWML
