District Line Wimbledon - Edgware Road

Hi.

Can anyone shed any light on why this section of the London Underground is part of the District Line? It shares stock with the Hammersmith & City/Circle Lines and runs none of them off route (discounting the Wimbledon - Upminster service which uses District D-Stock anyway). Wouldn't it be more sensible to call the line something different entirely? Wimbledon & City perhaps?

D stock won't fit in the platforms north of High Street Kensington (I think it does in Edgware Road though) - closest stock that fits is C stock! As the Wimbledon branch is served by the District I think it's too short to have its own identity when - plus when S stock comes into play around there who knows what service pattern there will be?

The route already has an unofficial nickname: The Wimbleware.

Things do get changed around quite a bit around there from time to time - it's not that long ago that a lot of the trains to Edgware Road came from Ealing Broadway.

We could just call the western bit of the circle "the crap bit".

I always thought it should be called the Olympia Line, but it only serves Olympia very rarely now so I guess that wouldn't work.
