Automatic train operation run by computer, centrally, will solve a lot of problems without having to rearrange junctions. The computer always knows where each train is, so if one train is late, it can work on the network as a whole to slow things down or speed things up so paths still 'slot in' properly at flat junctions.

Don't count on it. You can't manufacture something that simply isn't there. You can't speed things up faster than line speed or the designated braking rate for a given location, and if you slow a train down then you also slow down all the trains behind. The Northern Line, which has a very similar system to what the SSL will get, demonstrates this when things go up the wall - the key junctions struggle to handle the throughput of trains and you just end up running later and later. This is on a line where all the junctions are grade-separated and you have lots of options for recovering the service, rather in contrast to the SSL.

Unfortunately impossible things that would improve Sub Surface Line capacity:
Reaarange Baker Street Met platforms to be like Aldgate and Edgeware Road with the terminating platforms in the middle
Grade separate Baker Street junction
Grade separate the Aldgate/Aldgate East/Minories junction triangle
Grade separate and rearrange to have terminating trains in the middle at High Street Kensington
Grade separate Gloucester Road junction
Grade separate Praed Street junction

Bonus points if your multi-billion pound rebuilding project under protected buildings and congested streets can furnish the terminating points with reversing sidings for optimum capacity and to make things simpler for passengers

I cant see any advantage to the first suggestion, however if trains could run through all platforms that would help.

Wouldnt need a grade separated junction at Praed Street/Edgware Road, all you need to do is untangle the flat junction by widening both throats to Edgware Road so 4 tracks leave West of Edgware Road and reallign the Eastern end so the current through track from Baker Street to Hammersmith goes onto the same island as the Eastbound services from Hammersmith with the other island used as a terminating platform with its own run of tracks round to Paddington (Circle/District) that are isolated from the tracks to Paddington (Circle/H&C) so you have 2 independent sets of running tracks however with a flat junction for movements between the Westbound H&C and the terminating Circle/District Eastbound, something like this just i cant do a flat junction:

From Hammersmith-------------------------EBOUND------------- To Baker St
(ISLAND PLATFORM)
To Hammersmith -----------------------WBOUND----------- From Baker St
From Notting Hill Gt ----------------------TERMIN -:
(ISLAND PLATFORM)
To Notting Hill Gt ----------------------TERMIN - :

Something on that arrangement where the 2 approaches from the West are completeley isolated so a late running District Line to Edgware Road wont impact upon an on time running Hammersmith & City Line to Hammersmith by having to hold one to let the other cross over its path

The CPI at Edgware Road was a commitment that got the Circle line reform through, it could not be removed.

It would help at Baker St as currently terminating trains block the southbound main if waiting for their bay platform to become free, plus a train leaving platform 4 blocks the southbound main. All of this delays southbound Aldgate trains, which can mean they lose their path through the city. This causes blocking back, and then has a knock on at Aldgate.

The latest I have heard is D stock will run until April or May, and I believe there is an official "goodbye" planned. I think there are currently 10 D stock units still being used for passenger services.

There are actually 8 left in service staying until May haven't heard anything about a farewell tour.

As at today there are 7 available.
Now likely to go quicker than May.
A farewell Tour is on the cards, covering the District Line (possibly except Edgware Road) but having a lunch break at Northfields. To happen "sometime in May".

Will the London Transport Museum run that tour if it happens?

Might I ask which one has (I assume) broken down and has been retired?

not broken down, just due for unnecessary heavy exam - 7070+7115 awaiting dispatch from Ealing Common.
Although 7535 7030 are currently undergoing motor and bogie swap in Upminster depot.

Where will be the best web page to keep an eye out for the tour - their website, twitter, facebook, etc?
this is probably the best site:

Do you know what train numbers any D stock sets are on today Dstock7080 or any likely ones I can check?

I thought they could run to Edgware Road because the R stock was banned from that branch for the same reason yet they still manged to run the farewell tour there.

Cleared for empty moves only; the trains are too long for the platforms.

Remember that service trains always take priority. Edgware Road (in particular Praed Street junction) is extremely busy already. It's probable that there is no spare path across the junction without cancelling a Wimbledon to High Street, which may be seen as unacceptable.

All will be revealed in due course, I understand details are expected very soon.

I am sure a path could be squeezed in, do it often enough for other specials!

Sorry to ask again, but any D-stocks out today at present?
Very few today, T123 was one but that has finished this morning. 3 remain out of service at ECom, with one being dispatched very soon and 1 at Upminster.

T2 Richmond-Upminster
T46 EBdwy-Upminster are D

If you're wanting to get one, I would suggest you wait at Earls Court and bring a book!

I got one on Saturday (by luck) at about 14:50 from Tower Hill toward Richmond, if thats any help to you.

I did that at Tower Hill and Monument a week or so ago, first D-stock was too busy to board at Tower, so caught a Circle to Monument, 35 mins later train 016 was a D so to Victoria then train home.

Surely waiting at South Kensington is better as that has an island platform?

Even though Edgware Road can only be served by S Stock, there are possible D Stock trains on the Kensington (Olympia) - High Street Kensington shuttle that don't visit South Kensington.

with 7016+7533 being dispatched from Ealing Common, this leaves 6 - although 7030+7535 are out-of-service at Upminster depot after a serious motor defect, just days after receiving replacement motors!
