Dissertation Ideas for Heritage Railways

I am studying for an MSc in Responsible Tourism Management and want to base my research project on heritage railways. (Responsible tourism means maximising the positive economic, environmental and socio-cultural impacts whilst minimising negative impacts).

As a straw poll, what research areas would people recommend? My interests lie in socio cultural and environmental issues? Thanks in advance.

Go for the NYMR. Biggest heritage railway operation in the world. Can look at the positive effects of the schemes the line have implemented recently on the local economy such as the Pickering roof renewal and the purchase of the local tea room along with bigger projects such as the partnership with NR on renewing the Grosmont signal gantry and Whitby platform 2.

Environmentally, the NYMR are always ultra cautious on fire safety so you could look at the environmental impacts lineside fires have and how they look at preventing it.
