Disruptive Passengers

Three trains delayed on Southern today:

16:23 Beckenham Junction to London Bridge due 16:56
This train is being delayed between Birkbeck and Crystal Palace and is expected to be 30 minutes late.
This train has run non-stop from Tulse Hill to London Bridge.
It will no longer call at: North Dulwich, East Dulwich, Peckham Rye, Queens Rd Peckham and South Bermondsey.
This is due to disruptive passengers.

17:01 London Victoria to Epsom Downs due 17:58
This train will be formed of 4 coaches instead of 8.
This is due to disruptive passengers.

16:03 Sutton Surrey to London Victoria due 16:55
This train is being delayed at Crystal Palace and is expected to be 30 minutes late.
This is due to disruptive passengers.


My questions are why should the 16:23 miss out certain stops due to disruptive passengers.

Why should the 17:01 be short formed due to disruptive passengers, i'm assuming the 16:03 is being delayed at CYP due to police being called.


Just seems odd that three trains are being delayed in the same afternoon due to disruptive passengers.

to make up for the delay, or to ensure the BTP get the buggers that caused the problem.

Short formed likely because of the delay, meaning there's no time to hook up with the other unit (which may have left by the time it arrives)

I suspect it may be because the incident delayed the train and they have axed some stops to attempt to make back the time.

I was on the 14.50 Aberdeen to Kings + on Wednesday and we sat in the platform for 7 Min with no announcements until the guard announced that we were being delayed for an unknown reason and then walked through the train asking anyone if we needed any assistance. We then departed after having sat for 10 Min in the platform there.

She announced a while later that apparently someone had dialled 999 and claimed to be on that train, but left no reason. We were reported on National Rail as being delayed by disruptive passengers despite nothing on the train being untoward.

Disruptive passengers really means something where a passenger hasn't done something as intended. In the same way 'signal failure' can mean anything from a TCF to a SPAD.

Yep - could be:

1) Spurious passcomm activation
2) On-board fighting
3) Threats or criminal activity
4) Vandalism by passengers

The list is endless!

Possibly, but there is no evidence that a passenger on the train made the call.
