Disruption in Scotland 13 Nov

Yesterday, 13 Nov, 1W11 the through train from Kings Cross to Aberdeen, "was cancelled between Edinburgh and Aberdeen due to unknown cause".

Anyone know any more?

It had been subject to a temporary speed limit through the Borders because of high rainfall, but was only 9 minutes late at Waverley.

Apparently LNER organised some replacement coaches, but that information was not well distributed. Many passengers - as well as several LNER staff - squeezed onto the next Scotrail train for Aberdeen at 15:30, a 2+4 HST. A few waited for the 1629, a 2+5 HST.

There was conflicting information about ticket acceptance, but mine was accepted without question.

it has probably been explained numerous times before on different threads, those are the delay codes that are used INTERNALLY within the Rail system. All those who use them understand the reason (and circumstances for use). RTT take the data from internal sources

It's just the way RTT interprets the codes, X4 is actually:

X4 - Blanket speed restriction or Key Route Strategy implemented in accordance with Group Standards or other national operational safety instruction

There were also speed restrictions through Fife that were adding 20 mins to journeys. Ticket acceptance was only for passengers who needed assistance to travel but that was widely ignored and everyone piled onto the 1530 regardless. It ran express Dundee to Aberdeen to relieve the overcrowding with everyone for other stations put onto a local stopper at Dundee.

I was on that train headed from King's Cross to Dundee and we did exactly what the LNER staff member on the platform told us to do and waited there for the 1530 service.

Specifically he said that ScotRail were accepting tickets as far as Leuchars on the 1500 service and anybody wanting to go to Dundee or beyond should wait for the 1530 even though the 1500 was actually going to Dundee and as it turned out later was strengthened from three carriages to five. I know that people with tickets to Dundee that tried to use the 1500 were refused at the barrier and had to buy new tickets.

The first we heard of buses was when the guard on the 1530 service grumbled that we were supposed to have got buses but had decided to use his service instead.

So you were given the wrong info by the LNER staff. There were 5 buses parked up waiting for LNER passengers
