Not even half way through July and at least three occasions with trains delayed or cancelled between New St and the airport due to major incidents. The 14:47 last Friday 11 July 2025 to London Euston ground to a halt just past Adderley Park because of a signal failure. This took over an hour and a half to resolve. With some passengers in danger of missing flights the train reversed into Adderley Park allowing the option of abandoning journeys.
This follows the overhead wires nightmare the previous week and was followed 13 July 2025 by long delays and cancellations due to over running engineering works(do they ever end on time?)
With signalling problems seemingly becoming more frequent cannot anything be put in place to resolve issues more quickly?

I think that might have been the problem all along. "Quick" fixes break again, we, as a country, probably need to bite the bullet and spend money on infrastructure.

None of these were signalling problems. The fault on 11/7 was a points failure at Stechford (no doubt triggered by the heat), the train you mention was the most delayed by far.

And yes, well over 99% of engineering works finish on time.

The explanation given to passengers on the 14:47 was signal failure.

99% of engineering works may end on time but that is no comfort when passengers are massively delayed. In just over two months I was delayed by over one hour travelling to London from Moor St 4 May 2025 and 13 July 2025 from New St both due to over running engineering works
