Disruption at Skipton 12/06/19

I think bigbaldbruce was actually at Skipton (rr-reading his posts they make good sense that way) so the discussion about the 60 isnt relevant to his posts. Skipton bus station is a fair walk and the choice is the X84 via Ilkley or the 66 to Keighley which is tedious as a through route ( I have done it!).

It is if the disruption trickles down the line to Keighley towards Shipley.

Precisely. I came in on the train from Lancaster right at the start of the disruption, and left 3 hours later on a train to Leeds. No criticism at all of the staff on the ground, they were doing their very best. It was communication from above and to social media that was lacking, along with what seemed to be a total mess of organisation with regards to the replacement road transport.

Yes trains can be turned at Kildwick crossover in both directions. The question though has to be asked if it is sensible at that time of day. It's not just about train passengers is it. Kildwick crossing is a total bottleneck for road traffic, and turning trains there would lead to some very dangerous conditions on the A629 duel carriageway.

Yes I understand what you are saying. However on a normal day station road can be jammed solid with cars avoiding the level crossing, and traffic can be backed up on the 629. A quick look at the timetable between 1700 and 1800 shows five passenger trains in each direction between Keighley and Skipton, which means the barriers are already down for significant periods. If Skipton is blocked would extending a couple of trains north from Keighley to Kildwick and return really make much difference to the road traffic? What's the point of investing in an electrified crossover if you're not going to use it in an emergency?
