Disruption at New Street?

Having come home yesterday (Saturday) evening, I noticed that my Cross city line train seemed to be delayed into Birmingham New Street, and then my XC service was late arriving/leaving, I broke my journey at Stafford, and then waited for the 20:41 LM service to Crewe, which turned up at 20:34, then waited for the departue time in the platform, meanwhile the 20:30 XC service was delayed, upon checking Real Time Trains, the service appeared to have run to time until New Street where it was delayed entering, what was the cause of all these disruptions?
