To the OP - if you are in a similar situation in the future, ask the train manager before you board the train for his/her permission to travel (who is usually on the platform when train is at a station). I "chanced it" on an Advanced ticket many weeks ago when returning to Kings Cross and the train manager welcomed me on board. Never assume it will be ok

This thread is now locked. There's no need to continue berating the OP. They have had their mistake explained to them and have made it clear that they realise a mistake was made. I wish the OP well in trying to seek a gesture of goodwill as is their right. As such there seems little point keeping this thread open so people can continue to unnecessarily pile on.
