£4 won't go far. :p

It will. Will pay for this errant member of staff and our very own RJ to have a coffee in the upstairs Starbucks at Paddington while a one-hour training course is given.

Be careful though; Starbucks cards are not accepted in Costa or other coffee shops at any station.

I think you can just about do it with a plain, small, Americano.. I am not aware of Starbucks increasing their prices at train stations (but can't honestly remember).

Anyway, back on topic, I hope someone will write to FGW and ask about the breakdown of this £4m spend.

Most Starbucks drinks should be under £2 if ordered in the short size, which isn't advertised.

Haven't asked them about the breakdown on the spend. Well not directly. But I did enquire about the use of the stock phrase, referring to the £4 million spend, in responses from Customer Services.

Jo, at FGW Facebook just got back to me with this from the Customer Relations Manager:

"Customer Relations are having a complete review of all of their standard text and the project is well underway. That should be the last time you see this particular one! Thanks again for feedback. Jo"

I've asked a follow-up question about the 'Putting Customers First' training program which was launched in the wake of FGW being put on the naughty step by the DfT in 2008. That 'PCF' initiative is what the £4 million was spent on.
