Display on Manchester Piccadilly Platform 13/14

I came across this display at the London end of platform 13/14, I had run up the stairs at Chorley and got in the first carriage, and ended up right at the front on a 6 car unit, so ended up right at the platform end at Man Pic. Simple question, what's it for?

I love that display, it is probably something to do with dispatching since it's near the "don't linger here" area.
I think there's some more of them in the main platforms (maybe at end of 11/12)

I think either 2 or 3 more exist in the main trainshed. They were intended for platform staff and train crews to know where their train is. They of course, can act as screens for passengers if you know your train's headcode.

yes they're incredibly nice for train spotting from 13/14, it's a very nice format of the data for trainspotting.
Don't need RTT or OpenTrainTimes when that's right there

SO much congestion on the Airport through Castlefield Corridor it gives staff visibility of where exactly the trains are stuck.

Quite a number of stations have them, usually with threatening-looking "staff only" notices. There's definitely one at Birmingham New St in the B end tunnel, and another at Bedford on P1 behind the stairs.

Oxford and Didcot have them as well, so I would think other GWR stations would have them.

As do Reading, Swindon, and as you say no doubt many other GWR stations. I use them regularly, have never encountered any problems doing so, and on occasion have shown other interested passengers what they display!

Cheltenham Spa has a similar "staff information" display.

It shows the Worldline Tiger CIS on the side panel.

At one time there was one in the information kiosk on the main concourse (right where one would queue). Don't know if it's still there.

Handy to look at yesterday around tea time ( if you understood the display) as some of the services were running under caution due to the flash floods/ sudden dumping of the rain around 1600 in the G.manchester area

And you’d be correct. It’s at the end of the gateline behind the platform 1/2 buffers

Maybe we need a new thread for spotting staff live CIS - this one at Gloucester.

That said, entertaining hoards of trainspotters isn't what they're designed for and may get in the way of staff users.

Incredible.

Only on the railway would you be told off for looking at a monitor located on a platform next to the timetable and advertising boards.

It's the same type of display as I saw at Cheltenham Spa, BTW.

Assuming its in a publically accessible area, like the one at Man Pic is, then if they dont want to you to look at it they need to conceal it.

Being the railway I am sure they can devise an automated system using vision recognition which will determine if the person who is stood there is a allowed to view the information, with a complex system of smoke and mirrors to screen the display from unauthorised viewing. This project will probably go massively over budget, not deliver its intended purpose and be delivered late, in the meantime they can erect barriers to block off the affected area of platform and lock out the carriages stopping near the displays
