Discover Brussels 72 hours

Could anyone please confirm if this ticket is valid for three calendar days or 72 hours from the time of issue? ie. if I bought it at 1500 on a Monday, would it expire at the end of Wednesday or at 1500 on Thursday?

Also is this ticket issued on the smartcard or as a conventional ticket and what sort of validation has to be done before boarding a tram/metro/train?

It's valid for 72 hours rather than three calendar days. I haven't used the 72 hour ticket before, but I found the 24 hour one varied whether it was on a paper ticket or a disposable MOBIB smartcard. Buses and trams have validating machines on, the metro has ticket barriers. With the paper ticket you only need to validate it once (but still put it in the validating machines at ticket barriers to get them to open each time), but with the smartcard you need to touch in on every bus and tram, so hopefully you'll be lucky and get a paper one! Bear in mind that the Discover Brussels ticket is only valid on STIB/MIVB, and not SNCB/NMBS, De Lijn or TEC.

IF it says like JUMP somewhere on it, then its valid on ALL publ transit In the Brussels area=NOT toward airport. In theory you MUST with both tickets validate anytime you board a new tram/bus-and for metro there are gates anyway. On paper tickets with magnetic stripe they used to stamp the car nr-to facilitate checking.

Correct - although STIB/MIVB ticket machines don't seem to sell Jump day tickets, only the 1 and 10-journey tickets. When I tried asking at the office in the metro station at Brussels Central, I was just given a Discover Brussels...

says you can buy the 1 day Jump at BOOTIK (6 in Brussels), KIOSK (14 of the major metro stations), SHOP (booksellers and supermarkets), De Lijn buses, TEC buses and at SNCB/NMBS railway stations in the Brussels region.

so that would explain why the metro station could only sell a Discover Brussels ticket.

It was the KIOSK at Brussels Central metro station that I tried asking at for a Jump ticket, and it was on the list of available tickets, yet I was sold a Discover Brussels! The SNCB/NMBS machines didn't have it either, although I didn't try the SNCB/NMBS ticket office which I probably should have done. I wonder what's stopping it from being sold at the GO machines at every station?

The cynical answer would be that while Discover Brussels 24h and Jump 1 jour are the same price, the former presumably gives all the revenue to STIB whereas the latter shares some with SNCB, TEC and De Lijn...
