Disabled railcard

A friend of mine works as a care worker and one of his clients has a disabled railcard. This client has asked to be taken to the London transport museum and this will be done by train. Am I correct in telling him that the Royal card will give a discount on both his ticket and that of his client as long as they always travel together? I ask as he enquired with Thameslink to be told that the discount only applies to the card older.
