Do it all the time...I buy my ticket on my phone, meet my son at Durham station (he's at uni there), buy him a paper ticket with the disabled railcard and we both go to Newcastle (Ashington next time!)

If I'm travelling with my friend and he has a disabled railcard card. Can I buy my own but travel with him? Or must they be purchased together as the t&c suggest that is the case.
You can buy the companion ticket separately, although a ticket office may refuse to sell it to you without seeing the Railcard. When you are travelling, the only requirement is that you remain together.

Perfect, thanks for the clarification. T&c read slightly different but I don't want my friend paying for me as I know he wouldn't take it back when offere, so would rather sort myself. He will also get a ticket from an office rather than online as he is adamant it's cheaper on the day from a ticket office.
