I passed a SWT liveried 158 as my train, the 16:10 from Great Malvern to New Street, was pulling into Worcester Foregate Street today, so I assume it was working the 14:15 Bath Spa to Great Malvern while on hire to FGW: Could anybody tell me which unit it was?

Also, does anybody know why one of LMs' three car 150s was working a New Street to Hereford diagram today? It was on the 16:49 New Street to Hereford, and I also passed it working into New Street earlier in the day at Droitwich Spa.

Ta for any information.

The 150 was working because it's diagrammed to on a Saturday. Can't help with the 158, but your explanation is almost certainly right in the principle.

It was 150009...travelled on 15:54 Shrub Hill to New Street...didn't like going up the Lickey on bit, the noise was awful :-x...and it went via Camp Hill.

After the 16:49 to Hereford, it forms a return service to Dorridge via Snow Hill.

Thank you very much for both of your helpful replies. I didn't realise there was a 150 diagram on the Hereford runs on a Saturday.

In my experience, any unit that makes a stop at Bromsgrove has its' work cut out in getting up the Lickey, I have no doubt that a 150 would have quite a struggle on its' hands!

I had a standing start from the loop at Bromsgrove on Thursday morning with a 97 with 2 on, the noise was beautifully unholy but we flew up it, relatively speaking. It was awesome!

Could be 158890, was wondering the same thing when it was on the FGW run to Brighton a few weeks back and after making a topic, a nice person said it is a weekday and Saturday hire in to FGW.

Well the picture says 158884
I would think that the unit hired in could very easily change weekly, fortnightly or monthly, etc, depending on maintenance requirements, so without someone knowing precisely which unit has been in use during the past week then it will be difficult to come to a definite answer.

Thanks very much for the suggestions and help.

I would imagine that the Lickey would pose much less of a problem if all the passenger services calling at Bromsgrove were formed of a 1750hp class 37 and load 2 or 3 instead of a Turbostar!

Use a Class 185! Yes, I know there are better places! :)

As far as I'm aware, the SWT 158's diagram starts and finishes at Salisbury? I know I've read it somewhere (TR UK maybe). So its feasible that it could be a different unit everyday. :)
