Differences between 2HAP and 2EPB EMUs?

Are there any discernible differences between 2HAP and 2EPB units? I can tell the difference between Bulleid and BR - designed EPBs but I can't notice differences between 2HAP and 2EPB (other than that EPBs were never painted in NSE livery, apparently). Could anyone clarify the differences between the two EMUs?

The main difference was that the HAP's were built for stopping services to the Kent Coast, and so had 1st class compartments and toilets, whereas the EPB's were suburban and didn't.

(incidentally, the HAP's also had a split between Bullied and BR designed bodywork, although the BR designed ones were proportionately far more numerous).

BTW lots and lots of EPB's ended up in NSE livery.

And curiously on most HAPs there was a toilet for the first class compartments, a toilet for the half a coach of second class, but the motor coach had no toilet facilities...

Indeed - a peculiar Southern Railway practice carried over from the 2 HAL's (the HAL apparently meant that HAlf of the unit had access to the Lavatory)
