I want to travel from Didcot Parkway to Stevenage and back on Saturday 30th September. The GWR part is all good - I don't mind a packed train as long as I can get on!
The LNER part is worrying me. Firstly the trains are every two hours so there's no fallback option. Secondly I've heard that LNER are enforcing reservations. It says "no tickets available" when I try to book online.
Can I just buy an off peak return and get on the train at Kings Cross or will they be checking reservations? Is it likely to be so busy I won't be able to board and are there any tricks I can use to get round this? (I think you can usually access the platforms ahead of time at Kings X unlike other London termini)
How likely is the return train (18.01) from Stevenage to be so packed I can't board?
