Travelling on Fri 5/9 & returning Sun 7/9
Best price I can get is off peak return £43.90 with network railcard. A good price I can't get it any lower am I missing anything?

Probably not as travelling via London is the only way you'd make that journey viable from a time perspective - going north would mean via Leicester and Peterboro.

The one way you could really reduce the cost would be go to Oxford and use the Stagecoach X 5 which is £ 13.50 single or £ 15 return.

It's not that far off in time terms either at 3 hours from Oxford to St Neots - NRE is quoting 2.5 - 3 to go Didcot - St Neots by train (assuming GTR are running that day.....)
