Didcot Steam Movement 22/2/24

I was at Didcot yesterday and witnessed a GWR 2-6-2 tank loco being moved off towards Oxford sandwiched between two class 66s. Anyone know where it was headed? I would also be interested in knowing the technical details about how such a consist is braked.

Throughpiped through the steam loco to the rear loco, low speed to the other end of the Didcot yard to get to a road access point to put a truck in for it to go on

Thanks, that makes sense. I couldn't imagine them traveling at speed to some distant location. So airbrakes can be through piped, I thought the steam loco would have vacuum piping?

Steam loco was 5199 for reference.

Yes it's loco 5199 returning home after its recent appearance on half-term trains with its sister engine 4144 that is based at Didcot. To get all steam locos on/off site at DRC it's standard practice to have 2 X Class 66's top 'n tail
