So basically i had gotten a ticket that was to depart in the morning and went on the train in the afternoon. (I had overslept) I didn’t think too much of it since the ticket was for the same company.

The inspector came and told me i had to pay. I didn’t have enough money to pay him upfront so he took my details saying i could pay later for the original ticket amount. 2 weeks later i get a prosecution letter and a fee of the £100+ ticket cost?!!

Is this going to impact my DBS checks or my criminal record even if i pay?

I cannot contact the company prosecuting me (IRCAS) as they charge calls and my provider does not let me exceed my spending cap. I have contacted crosscountry 2 days after the incident asking advice on how to pay as i was worried this very scenario would happen. They said that they could not do anything but a letter will come.

Can you post the letter (with all the personal details redacted)? It would help the other members in helping you

@brevttttt. Welcome to the forum. So, basically, you'd purchased a cheap, inflexible, booked train only, advance single ticket, missed the booked train (for whatever reason, but due to your fault), then got a later train, and didn't buy a new ticket.

Unfortunately, if it was an advance single ticket that you had for the earlier train, then it wouldn't have had any validity later on.

Think you might have to chalk this one up to experience, and pay the amount requested (the unpaid fare for the journey made at the full Anytime Day Single rate, plus the £100 fee on top).

If you pay it will have no impact on DBS checks and you will not have a criminal record.

Up the creek
But be aware that if you do the same thing again, or any other fare infraction, you may not be so lucky and you might get taken to court.
