Did my first practice GB test

And I didn't do that well...managed 6.5 lines on every page, but with a total of 13 omissions and 2 wrong...got some work to do.

What scores do other people get?

My first attempt was similar to that. After some practice I could get double the speed and zero errors.

Concentrate on accuracy first, if you concentrate on accuracy when you practice, then the speed will improve by itself.

I did mine on paper...can't get the computer program to work. Tried last night but it installed 5 spam programs that buggered up my computer for a few hours...and still didn't get the test program.

If any one has a working version of the software and wants to give it me it'd be really appreciated

Mmmm, might be worth mentioning where you got the program from, so others can avoid that particular source! The official program doesn't install anything to your computer other than itself. No spyware/adware Etc.

My first attempt was under 1000 cells and 10 omissions. I also think my row fluctuation was all over the place and my brain hurt.

After about 20 goes I'm upto 1450 cells completed 1-3 omissions and no errors. About 6.5 seconds a row and my fluctuation is about 2.4.

What I find helps is a drum beat. if you can keep a beat in your head whilst marking the dots you can gradually increase the "beat" the more comfy you feel with it. End of the day its all about consistency. If you manage 6 rows on page 1 then 9 rows, 4, 7 then 10 rows I'm sure this would fail but if you kept it at 7 rows per page this shows consistency and would more likely pass.

On a pass note though, I don't think anyone has the answer to what a pass or fail is so I think if you go for accuracy rather than speed then you're onto a winner.

When I was getting ready for my assessments I always did around 1250-1350 with no omissions or errors this was enough for me to get a top pass.

I was on my laptop yesterday and thought I'd have a quick go at the Bourdon to see if I still had it, I managed 1170 with no errors or omissions.

It might be different for drivers and conductors. I don't know. All i know is i practiced dots and got it down to a good score. On assessment day we did the SCAAT instead!!!! I hadn't even looked at that one and i passed. Don't know how tbh. Don't just concentrate on these tests either, there are others to do. Btw i was getting about 13000 with 7 wrong and 10 missed, that would defo be a pass.

There appears to be an actual pass mark stated in there (ie - an acceptable level for each of cells/errors/omissions) with a box to tick for either pass or fail. I was surprised to see it as I though it was supposed to be a closely guarded secret, yet anyone looking through them would be able to find out - though I guess knowing afterwards probably isn't much use!

Also i've no idea if it's TOC specific and/or changes each year.

I always we led to believe that the sheets were electronically read by a computer? If so even the assessors would probably not know what is the borderline for pass and fail, I never knew when I was an interviewer assessor! HR used to take the sheets away and then let us know who had passed and with what grade!

When I did mine they were marked by hand in the corner of the room then rechecked by two other HR people. We had to wait around two hours for this to be done. They marked everyone's (somewhere around 50) and also marked the dials and glop assessment at the same time before deciding who could go into the afternoon.

Having been a manager/interviewer/assessor etc, you'll definitely know how it works better than me - I only went through the system! But I wonder if this might be because the actual DM's etc who did the manager interview don't deal specifically with the psychometric tests (they don't where I work anyway). That part was all done by HR/OPC. It may be why no-one working on the rail side knows what the figures are - they simply don't get involved with that part of cadidate assessment.

Either way, it was simply put in the front of our personal file when we started. Being nosey and having a look through I could see that where I assumed it would just have pass/fail etc boxes to tick, it actually gave figures and a fail, then higher figures and a pass. It had pass/fail figures for most of the core tests with a box to tick (except the DTG).

I downloaded this practice software and have tried it twice now, first time I was sure I didn't mark any incorrect ones but the second time I definitely know I did, yet the software in the results says I marked none incorrect ?? Anyone else had the same ??
