Good afternoon people of RailUKforums, out of curiosity I have tried to find out whether class 158s went to Weymouth while they were with Regional Railways. I found that they do sometimes go there with GWR and Wessex Trains, but couldn't find whether Regional sent any there. Did class 158s go to Weymouth when they were with Regional, and if so, how regularly?

Was it not the 158s that had problems with the track circuits on the Weymouth, thus leading to a return of the loco + stock and shuttle services with dmus from Westbury?

Just checked my logs for the years in question (1990 - 94) and I never coincided with one. That said, I would have made efforts to avoid them and was much more interested in the workings with a great big 37 on the front!

I lived right by the line north of Dorchester from 1991 and commuted Yeovil to Upwey for a summer job until about 2001. I only recall Class 158s in the Wessex Trains days. My teenage self would have been excited by the sight of one in earlier years.

Contrast with the 155s, of which at least one set off from Bristol towards Weymouth a few days before the official launch on Pompey-Cardiffs. No idea whether it actually got there!
