I know the 8-Car Western Pullman went to Lime Street once or twice, and also to Aintree Station for the Grand National, but want to know if the 6-Car Midland Pullman ever ventured to the Liverpool/Merseyside area?

Wasn't the Midland Pullman a regular at Aintree each year, running from London St Pancras via Peak Forest and the CLC line?

The Midland Pullman was a better choice for such a service as there was a spare unit, despite them being kept at Manchester. All three of the Western Region units were in weekday use.

I definitely saw a grey-blue Blue Pullman pass my grand mothers house which backed on to the railway sometime in the early 1970s inbound into Liverpool LS. She lived near the site of the old Sefton Park Station. I think it was the only time I ever actually saw a "Blue Pullman" except for the Triang model my father bought me in the mid 1960s.

One set even got to Hull. I have seen a photo of it on Botanic Gardens.

The story was that the powers that be were considering using the Blue Pullmans on the Hull(Yorkshire) Pullman.

The 2 6 car sets weren't used that much for Charters when they were on the LMR. It was nearly always the Western 8 car sets.
I do a LOT on the charters in the book I wrote with Kevin Robertson in 2020.
We have loads of pics in there too.

No,the Aintree Charters were booked by Mirabel Topham, one of Aintree's owners and they used Western 8 car sets to do Swansea to Aintree return

The Hull trial was actually for a different use than for the Yorkshire Pullman. It was specifically looked at as a new business air service had been introduced.
LMR set 2 was there for a week and a travelling fitter was chosen, shore supply was fitted at Botanic Gardens etc

Strange route Swansea to Liverpool for the races one would have thought it easier to fill the train from London. Presumably routed via Hereford / Shrewsbury / Crewe?
