On a recent trip to Bury (November 2022, so not that recent!), I noticed that Diamond North West’s 472 and 474 orbital routes to Ramsbottom appeared to be following a frequency of every 20 minutes. The last time I had used the service (post pandemic 2020) it was running every 15, as it had for a long time.

I can’t seem to find any mention of this cut anywhere, and with Transdev Blazefield’s Red4 being withdrawn just before the pandemic, Ramsbottom seems to have drawn the short end of the stick when it comes to buses. Indeed, many people will have gone from 8 buses an hour into Bury at the beginning of 2020, to just 3 today. Why has this not received much coverage, and how/why did Rotala do this?

Rotala opted to reduce the frequencies of a large number of Diamond services, and withdrew others, because they believed that the forthcoming franchising would result in a mass exodus of drivers. So the reductions were to pre-empt any driver shortages they thought might happen.
