Does anyone else watch Dial 999 on Talking Pictures TV? The latest episode concerned a plot to steal a shipment of diamonds from the Glasgow-London mail train.

When was that on? Last Tuesday at 6.00 p.m.?

"Dial 999" was a one series 38 episode black and white TV series, which originally aired in 1958/59. The 30 minute episode you mention might possibly have been an early episode from the series and was entitled "Night Mail" and the storyline, as you say, was about an attempt to steal diamonds from the Glasgow to London mail train.

Lead actor was Robert Beatty (1909-1992) who starred as Detective Inspector Mike Maguire, a Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman posted to New Scotland Yard.

Was the episode any good? Seems to have better than average ratings on IMDb.

Yep, that’s the one. I forget exactly when Talking pictures started showing the series but I’d say they’re probably at least halfway through.
Apparently the series was rerun on the old Bravo channel on Sky but I don’t remember seeing it. Yes, I’d say night mail was one of the better episodes from those they’ve shown so far.
