diagonal x on some dmus

I have noticed that in the cab window of some of the greater Anglia 170 dmus is a diagonal x , black ink white foreground. Could someone explain what this means

Non multi sticker. It identifies a defective coupler and the unit should NOT be coupled at that end.

Not necessarily defective coupler. An issue which prevents trains being attached that end.

I've seen units non-multi for defective gangway doors before.

As JN114 said, anything can cause a non-multi to be slapped to the secondman's window. And somtimes if you accidently couple to a non-multi, the units can't be spilt until you get to a depot capable of sorting the problem out. Usually electrical problems.

Yea, the most common causes of non multi is electrical faults transferring between units.
