DFT TOC ticket acceptance question Great Northern/LNER

Hi,

I have a question regarding ticket acceptance between Department for Transport operators when a train is cancelled.

Does it apply between Great Northern/Thameslink and LNER if a Great Northern service is cancelled? The passenger in question holds a Peterborough to London King’s Cross Advance Single routed AP GN & TL.


They were wondering if the Great Northern service was cancelled, would they be permitted to travel with LNER as the next train between Peterborough and London is run by them.

As of 31st May automatic cross-TOC ticket acceptance is in place for all DFTO TOCs and you can take any train up to 2 hours either side of the cancelled service.

This includes p-coded (planned) cancellations.

Does anyone know if LNER staff are aware of this, or is it likely to be purchase a new ticket and claim back situation?

LNER staff should be very aware of the policy as they were in the first set of operators which it applied to, and in any case it has been briefed to all DfT Operator TOC staff.

Do not voluntarily buy a new ticket; it will not be eligible for refund. You should only do so under protest in the unlikely event a train manager or revenue inspector insists that your existing ticket is invalid.

Thank you all. I thought I’d double check, as my cousin is the traveller in question and although he’s fairly confident and travels regularly, when I told him about the DFT TOC ticket acceptance it took him by surprise.

If you are travelling between Peterborough and London yes you can use any Thameslink/Great Northern/LNER service 2hrs before and after

It does not apply if you are travelling between Stevenage and London - LNER would still be ‘don’t use’ unless ticket acceptance is specifically agreed and advertised

If anyone has ever bought a ticket from the forum ticketing site, and has their ticket wrongly refused when cross-TOC ticket acceptance was in place and is wrongly forced to purchase a new ticket from a rogue member of staff, then let us know and I can promise we would do everything we can to help. At some TOCs we would have a direct contact.
