DfT station categories - and which stations need changes to their category

Hiya all -
This morning, I was looking at the Wikipedia page for the DfT station categories, and I noticed that they haven't been updated in the last decade. Obviously, this means that some stations often fall beyond the criteria for their letter (e.g. Acton Main Line and Bushey).

Do these categories have any meaningful impact? Maybe more funding/attention to these stations? If so, which stations do you think need changing the most?

100% it seems like is real. It was last updated in 2009. In 2009, Bushey had about 491,100 entries/exits (well over the 'under 0.25 million' required for a cat E station. This is the same with other stations like Acton Main Line. However, other stations like Stroud are cat D for this time despite having less patronage than both.

Not sure of the influence though!

Would you like to see a copy of the 2009 report where the reasoning is explained?

The categories were already around, (maybe only used by DfT), but the 2009 report moved some stations between existing categories.

Thanks - I have read the report previously. Other than giving enthusiasts another classification to talk about I ask what practical outcomes has this report has driven?

What has changed? What has been improved? What have we bought for the money? What tangible benefit, beyond a pointless entry in wiki, has been delivered?

How does knowing my station is "f2" and Bletchley is "c2 "have any impact on my day? My view is that it doesn't and this whole thing is a pointless waste of time

I think it was probably originally intended for internal use only, and adding it to Wikipedia was never necessary or that helpful.

The categories had a substantial updated a few years ago but I'm not sure the recategorisation results were made public. I think it may have been ~20% recatogeorised.
