DfT Confirms Thameslink Programme Will Be Delayed By A Year

There has been a very thorough debate in Parliament about the Thameslink project on Tuesday, and about FCC's operations over the winter on Wednesday.
Very many of the matters discussed on here were debated (timescales, rolling stock, service frequency, station developments etc.)

Here, in Hansard column 47, we have statement by Chris Mole "Key output 2 provides the full functionality of the Thameslink programme. There will be 24 trains per hour through the central core section, which will be achieved through the resignalling and reconstruction of London Bridge station and its approaches together with a new fleet of approximately 1,200 vehicles. That stage is scheduled to be completed from December 2016". A year later than previously announced.

The Minister is still talking about 24 trains an hour, although speculation in the railway press is that 20 trains will be the maximum due to cost.

Kulveer Ranger also said 24tph at an event at the London Transport Museum on Wednesday night.

I wonder who is telling the truth, or if the likely cut is to be delayed until after the election. Mind you, I'm not sure why Kulveer or Boris (Tories) would seek to keep it quiet if either could score political points.

Its more likely they are re-scoping it if its true as currently the first trains is now running some 18 months BEFORE they even build them! The delay in the trains is goning to mean they can slow down abit. Remember the first phase of the TLP is currently running late with Blackfriars station was due to be completed by Novemeber 2011 and now isn't likely to be completed until Easter 2012.
