The last time I tried to buy one off a SWT guard he couldn't issue one and advised me to purchase one from a manned ticket office. In that case I was heading for Exeter Central.

They can issue them, usually if they can't find it they'll tell you they 'cant do it'.

The ticket is printed "Devon Ranger", and they should be able to just type it in and find it. Otherwise it can be issued by either using the NLC code I857 on the main screen, or the rover code TSA in the Rangers and Rovers section on their Avantix, or both.

I find it constantly annoying when staff say they 'can't' do something when in reality the answer is they don't know how or are simply unwilling. This is usually followed up with some sort of patronising quip about how many decades they have on the job.

My last was Bristol Temple Meads ticket office who refused to sell me an over distance excess. They claimed it couldn't be done, that I'd need to buy a single ticket from my destination to my new destination, and when I politely explained it could be done and there was no need for a single ticket as well I got the whole 'I've been doing this 25 years' thing.

The staff on the gateline, equipped with Avantix mobile machines, were happy to issue one subsequently. Madness.

Got one from the ticket office at Andover station a few weekends ago with no problem, although the ticket seller had to put his glasses on to go looking for it.

Very good value for money for the distances travelled
