No, up here it's possible to see buses with "Sorry, (I'm) in service"

It seems there was more chance of LM running trains to Bethlehem or the North Pole than FCC running the trains it was supposed to at New Year....

Today I travelled for the first time in years on a named train.
The train ran from Brockenhurst to Lymington and back.

I believe Guards can enter their own text into the PIS on SWT stock, so my guess would be that's what happened here. I'm sure SWT don't officially name the Brock - Lymmy shuttles!

Those kinds of signs can only display one* message, the one that the LEDs are arranged to form the letters of.

*the more sophisticated ones might manage two or even three fixed ones

I've got a question, it kind of related to destination indicators so i'll stick it here rather than start a new thread. Been playing around with JTs class 153 on RW3 and I noticed that the EMT 153 has London St Pancras on the blinds, is this genuine? and has a 153 ever made it that far?

It's possibly a Photoshop job, but you could be wrong. The Highways Agency is currently rolling out MS4 technology across certain sections of motorways and trunk roads, which is the new type of Variable Message Sign (VMS). It will display many messages and pictograms, with no fixed formations, in several colours. I would imagine the technology is available to other countries. Here is an example from a supplier/contractor's website.

In addition, vehicles can be fitted with MS4, and some councils have implemented it on the roads they manage.

EDIT: Talking of which... this is a pretty cool VMS generator... better than most. I once used it for displaying meeting room reservations by zooming in on the webpage and then sending it to the appropriate monitor.
