Destination board at King's Cross - Foxton?!

Just a question out of curiosity..
Why do the destination boards at King's Cross state "Foxton" for all trains going to Cambridge? The trains themselves show Cambridge.
Is there a logical reason, or is it more of a fluff-up somewhere?

This is done to stop confusing passengers who want to reach cambridge as there is a faster service there (cambridge cruiser services). Therefore, at Cambridge the slower services are announced as terminating at Finsbury park.

Why though? Isn't it up to the passengers to realise which train is fast and which train is slow?

There is plenty of announcements saying which train is which.

IE "The 0945 runs non-stop to Cambridge, the 0952 calls at blah, blah, blah"....

its the same at watford junction, the metro services say they terminate at south hamstead but go to euston, and the semi's say euston as per the trains destination

This is done frequently across the network, Poppleton at the York end and Burley Park at the Leeds end on the Harrogate line springs to mind.

Ealing Broadway and Hayes & Harlington come to mind with Heathrow Connect.

Same at Glasgow Central. Cathcart Circle trains show their last "sensible" destination, with the message "calls at all stations outer circle" at the bottom of the screen.

Also with the Kingston and Hounslow Loop trains, Weybridge via Virgina Water, Southampton-Victoria ["Haywards Heath"]....

One that seems rather daft mind is the Dunfermline loop service which is advertised as terminating at Edinburgh Waverley when heading towards Dunfermline at Haymarket - some passengers must get confused surely!

These are mostly advertised to London Victoria now - although some are still advertised as East Croydon.

Up until the timetable change in June the Shrewsbury to New Street services continued to Leicester with the same unit and the same crew, just a 3 minute stop at Brum.

Famous Selby to Wakefield service often has Brighouse listed heading to Wakefield and Bramley coming the other way.

Waterloo to Portsmouth via Eastleigh services are advertised as terminating at Cosham.
Up trains are advertised for such exotic locations as Basingstoke, Surbiton or Wimbledon

SWT spliters for Poole & Weymouth in the PM peak used to show Parkstone & Weymouth

I think they should show Pokesdown on those particular trains Jim - you can get to Parkstone & Branksome quicker by going on the Weymouth portion.

I think the train shows the destination 'Wakefield Westgate', but when announced at stations they indicate that it is a slow service. For example, at Selby they announce it as going to Wakefield Westgate but say something along the lines of 'calling South Milford, Micklefield, East Garforth, Crossgates, Leeds and then stations to Wakefield Westgate', as really the service is mainly to provide a service to local stations as far as Leeds on that stretch.
