Desiro Hypothermia

T'was the day before Christmas (and pretty chilly) and all through the Desiro....

....came relentless freezing cold air blasting from the aircon outlets. Nice.

I do wish some German genius type would come and sort it out. And don't give me any of that 'blending' nonsense cos the floor level heater grille is cold! Must we really pump aircon gas about in December?!

Sounds like an excellent thing. All too often the temperature outside does not match that inside, especially when it's busy.

Also I think you mean hypothermia, hyperthermia is when one is too hot

Do you know I think you might be right! Too hot it aint. Clearly a case of 'typo'-thermia

I'm just waiting for a little festive snow...

Probably not too much the train crew can do as it probably can only have the temperature altered by a fitter. Did you tweet the TOC to let them know? Maybe they can arrange for a fitter to meet the train somewhere and change the temperature of the aircon

Early in January or February 2016, my wife and I travelled on a very cold Saturday morning on a rather convoluted route early morning service that ran from Wigan Wallgate to Clitheroe, via Manchester Victoria and the Copy Pit line with a reversal at Blackburn on one of "Newton Heath's Finest" Class 142 Pacers in which there was no heating available for the whole of all the journey.

Indeed, because we knew the weather was cold, both of us had garbed in our warmest outerwear, but that did not stop our faces being very cold for all the time that we were in that train. It seemed warmer in Clitheroe when we disembarked.

No it's way past that! It is a well known design issue on Desiro stock, sadly.

The temperature can be changed. I seem to recall that SWT set theirs a degree warmer than LM (I definitely prefer LMs setting in summer!)

Only by a fitter in the depot though, afaik the thermostat is located on the roof..

On the roof? Sounds as badly designed as the PA system on a 442 which, if I recall correctly, could only be adjusted by fitters as the controls were fitted underneath the train. Either that or a couple of guards were having me on - but regardless, obligatory 442 reference.
