When the driver and guard exchange the 2-2 does it sound at all guards panels whether or not a guard is keyed into one? When I was on one the other day I'm sure I heard the exchange of the 2-2 even though the guard was in another coach

From what I understand (and have heard when on a 444) is that it sounds at every guards panel.

Assuming its the same as on a 350, if you 'buzz' from a cab, only the cabs sound but if its done from an intermediate panel in the coaches then yes every other door sounds too.

Yes on all Siemens Desiro trains ( 185 / 350 / 360 / 380 / 444 / 450 ) the Guard buzzer (or in this case its a beeping sound rather than a buzzer sound) can be heard in all coaches of the train regardless of where the Guard is. I use 450s almost every day and can always hear the beeps from wherever i am. I presume (but not 100% sure) that this will be the same with the 707s. I believe this only happens on Desiro trains as on other trains such as Electrostar and Turbostar it can only be heard from wherever the Guard is on the train.

I had wondered this also after a long 350 journey the other day when the 2 guards worked in different ways (trent valley stopper with crew change at rugby)

In my experience of working 350's the 'beep-beep' only sounds at the active door panel, not the others, I have never experienced that.

It can't be heard on a 185 or 350/4.

Pretty sure I've heard this in a carriage the guard is definitely not in on an SWT 450. I haven't travelled other guard-operated routes with Desiro UK stock much, but I don't recall hearing it any of the times I've used LM 350/1s.

It can certainly be heard from anywhere on a 450 regardless of where the Guard is. I presumed that this would be the same on all Desiro trains but i suppose maybe its not. I will have to listen out next time that i go on other classes of Desiro trains.

Correct. On Class 185 units the "Beep Beep" (Signal Buzzer) can only be heard in the driver's cab which has the driver's key in and the location where the guard is keyed in and operating from. It does not sound anywhere else.

Siemens must have tweaked the design of the guard's panels at some point after the building of the 350/2s

After saying it does repeat at other panels, the 350/1 I'm currently on actually isn't sounding at other panels even though the guard is in the train. I'm 100% certain iv heard it before on LM 350s so must vary by unit or subclass.

afailk SWT's guards always use local doors, do LM and TPE guards normally use local doors or the back cab?

I can assure you it doesn't happen on any LM 350's atall. However if you are on a multiple unit and are sat near to a connecting end cab, it is possible to hear it coming from there.

LM can use both as they see fit.

SWT guards don't always use local doors. Particularly on busy services where they can't get through the train, they'll use a middle or rear cab.
