Desiro clock problems.

Clock was working OK on all the SWT 450s I was on today, has it been fixed across the board?

I expect Siemens just launched a replacement GPS satellite or something!

Still not working on the 455s I was on today.

I saw what might be a related problem the other day. On 10-car 444 formation leaving Waterloo the car numbering (which came in with proper SDO) couldn't be persuaded to change ends, so we left with Car 10 leading and Car 1 at the rear, according to the PIS. Not too much of a problem, you might think - until you get to short platforms where the SWT conductor was left trying to explain that you needed to alight from the first seven carriages - i.e. numbers 4 to 10. Might have been better to switch the whole thing off (the automatic SDO announcements were off anyway).

All the affected systems are from the same stable. The word is someone turned a satellite off. And now we have this issue!

Noone turned a satellite off. There are countless GPS satellites that the system like any other GPS device uses.

Passenger Information System - Clock Fault

We have recently identified a fault with our on-board information systems that means our trains are not displaying the correct time on their interior information displays.

The clocks on all of our trains are linked to the GPS system used to identify when they are arriving at a station. A fault has recently developed which means that the GPS receivers on board are unable to process the data received to calculate the current time and date.

Technicians have been able to develop a fix for the fault which was applied to our Desiro trains over the last weekend. We are now working to update the clocks on the remaining fleets of trains that have been affected. We are sorry for any inconvenience this fault causes to your journey today.

I doubt that would have been much of a problem, really. I think people could cope with the idea of fixed coach numbers just like letters.
