You're supposed to speak quietly in the quiet coach.

And some people's "normal conversational tone" is deafening.

I like Swiss trains, where every coach is a quiet coach and where the official "quiet coach" demands absolute silence. Sheer bliss...

Anyone who travels on C2C will know that the quiet coach does not apply to those getting on or off at Barking. - apparently.

"Auntie Edna's joined that knitting club and Arthur's lumbago is playing up - cousin Herbert is in trouble again was cautioned the other week for being over the limit" - that is what I said to some bloke who of 44 empty seats in a carriage chose to sit opposite me and then make a loud personal call. You don't want to hear all that stuff and I don't want to hear your crap either. He moved to the other end of the carriage.

Last time I was on a C2C service there was a big group of 'chav' kids in the 'quiet' coach, MP3 player blaring out at full blast.

Last week there was a "businesswoman" who decided that the quiet coach signs didn't apply to her -at one stage she stood up (just to make sure that everyone in the coach could hear her ?) and was bellowing into her 'phone: "I can't hear you - it's so noisy in here". :roll:
