Yes, it sure is. In days gone by when there were two trains an hour on that line, one used to stop at Higham station and the other at Hoo Junction Staff Halt. I think it's generally request only now.

Same with Dunbar, . . .

Dunbar can have quite a healthy 30 to 50 passengers boarding a service to/from Edinburgh, and the same disembarking.
Though nowhere near that number will be travelling south of the station.

Yeh i used to get the late night ones quite often but always stopped at higham and was rather suprised when it stopped at hoo..

I think the drelict platform of the old Ampress Works station on the Lymington branch is still in situ. Given that the works site has now been re-developed I wonder if it might be worth re-opening the station, though that would mean a whole new platform...

A fine station in breathtaking landscape - the coldest inhabited place in Britain with a year-round average of +6 degrees Celcius. With very few stopping Scotrail services, it is one of the leas used railway stations in Scotland, but gets a nightly sleeper calling, and a sprinkling of Scotrail Edinburgh or Glasgow to Inverness trains and vice versa. GNER tried calling there for about a year in 2005/6 time with the Highland Chieftain.

Chieftain still does, Northbound on Sundays only.

Springfield, Fife. 5 trains per day.

Teeside Airport- only used by 72 passengers in a year, and only one train a week in each direction.

Teeside airport (or Darlo International Airport as it should be known) only had that number of passengers becuase about 50 of them were on a trip organised by a local pressure group to draw attention to the situation with this station. God knows who the other 20 odd people are or why they use this station.

Wellworthy Ampress Works Halt platform was refurbished some years ago but cannot be used as access is impossible for disabled passengers even if agreement could be reached to get to the stairs through the petrol station. Suggestions have been made about relocating it nearer Lymington but the problem is that there is a grade and the platform would have to be placed in a suitable location. The local paper has mentioned advocates for its opening to serve the residents as well as the wonderful hospital.

Last time I went to Lymington ( in October ) the Ampress Works platform appeared rather overgrown in places and very derelict - and the works opposite appears to have been demolished. However, it looked as if preparations were being made for building a residential development, so there may yet be life in this station - in the current location - before too long.

One train each way a day I think.

I was on a train that stopped at Pear Tree a couple of weeks ago - and was most surprised that somebody actually got on there !

Clifton (Manchester) on the Manchester-Bolton line has just 12 trains per week.

What about Invergowrie on the Main line from Glasgow to Aberdeen. Im sure that only gets 1 or 2 tpd in each direction.

Addiewell on the shotts line can very quiet although it gets 1tph, its also one of the eeriest staions ive been to. The trees are black and a night its a horrible place to be. its also about a mile and a half from Addiwell itself

Addiewell has passenger figures that aren't too bad - see http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=41400 . However, I agree that I would not want to be there on a cold night (particularly when Visiting finishes at the adjoining prison!). All the same, the prison must be making a difference to the passenger figures, which appear to have increased by about 65% since the prison opened.

It is only half a mile from the village, which makes it reasonably accessible.

Even less people using the airport so probably a bad time for Northern to start stopping at the station more often. Perhaps if they had done so a few years back then more people would use the service.

Fairly busy commuter station actually. Only really got the commuter market into Birmingham though so the trains that stop tend to be targetted accordingly.

Gainsborough Central in Lincolnshire- only has 21 passengers per year, with three trains a week in each direction.

Gainsborough Central sees a lot more than 21 passengers per year! It is used regularly, even though it only sees 6 trains a day Saturdays only. Brigg is in a similar situation, plenty of people use it, obviously limited by the limited trains! Kirton Lindsey is the quietest station of the 3 on the Brigg line, bit people do use the trains when they run. Even more so when it's the only direct train running between Sheffield & Cleethorpes! (during engineering work on the Barnetby to Doncaster via Scunthorpe line, usually). The line is effectively freight-only Monday - Friday, and sees quite heavy use (mainly during the afternoon/night).

Another rarely used station I can think of is Thornton Abbey, on the Barton-on-Humber branch. Having travelled on this branch several times in the past, I have only ever seen one person board, and have boarded myself there before once, too! Never seen anyone else use the station. New Clee in Grimsby must be another candidate, as it is only called by the Barton-on-Humber stopping service (1 train every 2 hours) by request only, and only in daylight hours.

Why do they have more services to Lea Road rather than Central in Gainsborough? Central is obviously better placed...

Because Lea Road is on the busier line.

I wonder whether there is any way of re-engineering the area so that Doncaster - Lincoln services could serve Central then regain the Linoln line via a loop curve to the east?

Probably cost too much for the few extra passengers it would gain ( and that's assuming that everyone who uses Lea Road would transfer to Central; they probably won't and would switch to road so it would cancel out... ), though, as well as adding about 5 minutes to each journey...

Indeedy, I was there last March for about 30 mins, and no-one bought at ticket once! Only there and Hag Fold have an hourly on the Atherton Line, the other four have half-hourly trains. Nothing more depressing than seeing 142 cruise through the deserted platform. Quite sad really.

Today, I drove to Doleham (on the Ashford- Hastings line) to take some photographs but had difficulty in finding the station located along some narrow country lanes. It is situated in a very rural location and the only habitation within about 2 miles of the station is a row of about a dozen terrace houses. The station is only served by about four trains a day in each direction.
The passenger useage must be very low.
