Where is this station and why is east coast operating a bus which takes 2 1/2 hours from Peterborough

East Coast don't operate the bus it is a First Bus X1 which runs from Peterborough to Lowestoft. It is included in the rail timetable as a bus-link between Peterborough and Dereham I believe, with some through ticketing.

Or something like that.

There are a lot of former lines which now have bus links from main stations, and are included in the online departure boards.

I've often seen that bus parked outside Peterborough station and marvelled at the stamina of passengers willing to endure the 4 and a half hour journey to Lowestoft. Has to be one of the longest single bus journeys in the country!

I don't think many do the whole journey. It goes through Norwich and Kings Lynn too and this is the busiest section I think as taking the train would mean going via Ely!

It doesn't help that Dereham is a non-rail town when it comes to the national network. Very very few people do the journey end to end, I've used the full length of the route, but never at one go! As others say, it is not operated by East Coast, it's operated by First Bus Norfolk & Suffolk, mainly from their Kings Lynn depot, however due to the length of the route, buses also start from other depots.

I did the whole route in one day last year. Started at Lowestoft, stopped off for 30 minutes or an hour in about 7 towns including Dereham Market and ended up in Peterborough 9 hours later. It's a nice journey on comfortable and frequent modern buses.

Fares are well above average though - £14 for a day rover ticket and some single fares close to £10.

We have a rail/bus service on Sundays on the Conwy Valley line, its on the timetables and accepts rail tickets as well as fare payers & Welsh Bus Passes.

Its paid for by both Conwy & Gwynedd County Councils,with WG support.

Its only a 30 mile run. Trains run with the same CC support on Summer Sundays as a tourist feature
