I'm travelling to Wolverhampton next week with a friend and have been looking at how I could save a bit of money apart from buying split tickets which I already know, thanks to the help on this forum.

Now looking at the National Rail website it clearly shows that the ticket is valid to Burton On Trent from Sheffield, so my plan is to get tickets from Burton On Trent to Wolverhampton.

However the Derbyshire Council website https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/images/wayfarer_july14_web_tcm44-246132.pdf seems to suggest that you can go to Burton On Trent, but only if you get the stopper.

So the question is if we was to jump on the Cross Country train to Birmingham (as long as it stops at Burton On Trent), would the Wayfarer be valid as long as we have the tickets from Burton on Trent to Wolverhampton?

As long as the train calls at Burton, yes.
