Derby to Lichfield return fare query

Hoping to visit Lichfield tomorrow.
Return fares (Derby to lichfield City) are showing as:
£14.20 Anytime day return
£16.00 Off Peak Day return (not valid on 1711/1812)
£19.60 Anytime day return

This was based on out at 1228 returning at 1711/1812/1911.

So why are there 2 anytimes and one is cheaper than off peak?

The £14.20 is not valid via Birmingham and the £19.60 is Any Permitted.

A few got off the lunchtime arrival into Lichfield from the north.
At least 20 boarded the 1711 heading north.

Wonder if this should be made a regular feature - if perhaps only a few a day it would certainly be of benefit to Lichfield.

I think the purpose of the Lichfield City stops is for Trent Valley connections vice Tamworth.

Passengers would still have to travel to Lichfield Trent Valley to make the connections.

At the weekends I agree, as was what happened last Sunday. But there is a service to Tamworth using Nottingham - Cardiff

There are no trains calling at Tamworth HIGH Level this week, though, hence the diversions via Lichfield. Nottingham - Cardiff is cancelled north of Birmingham, I believe.

Back to normal next week, when all XC services originating north of Derby will be running about 20 minutes late because of the diversion between Sheffield and Chesterfield. A landslip at Unstone has closed the southbound track leading to all EMT services and XC southbound being diverted via the 'Old Road' (Beighton). Northbound XC services and many EMT services are running northbound as normal as that track is still open. Diversion likely to continue until mid April. Northern's Nottingham services curtailed to run north of Sheffield only, and EMT second (slower) London - Sheffield runs south of Derby only.

No it is not , it has been running this week from Monday and for the rest of taday once per hour via Sutton Park. At Saturday it terminates at Coleshil Parkway with onward bus service. On Sunday a replacement bus operates Lichfield - Tamworth. The Lichfield diversions of XCountry threw up a fares anomaly.
Let's keep it hypothetical!
Fred has bought a West Midlands Day Ranger for £23.50 which is valid from Birmingham as far as all the Trent Valley stations - Rugeley - Lichfield TV - Tamworth - Nuneaton - Rugby and in fact extends from Crewe to Northampton.

He wants to do the line from Lichfield TV High Level to Wichnor Jc. during the diversions.
Given the fares below: BHM = Birmingham New St., LIC = Lichfield City, TAM = Tamworth and BUT = Burton upon Trent.

BHM - BUT CDR £11.90 route any permitted
LIC - BUT CDR £12.40 route any permitted
TAM - BUT CDR £6.20 route any permitted

Using the off-peak day return fares. There are higher anytime fares if you want to do these lines during the evening peak 15.30-18.15.

Could he buy a Tamworth-Burton ticket and use it - in conjunction with his day ranger - from Birmingham via Lichfield to Burton, given that it covers the normal Birmingham-Tamworth-Burton route? Or that it covers TAM- Lichfield TV LL (then his day ranger to Lichfield City) - BUT.? Or should he buy a ticket for the full stretch BHM-BUT ? Or is anyone going to bother anyway?

Fred had no trouble with a couple of rides on the Walsall - Aldridge - Sutton Park - Water Orton line which he says was very enjoyable! The Nottingham trains and the Leicester/Stansteds were all taking this circuitous route. He says it was very nice to see Southampton and Glasgow trains running through Lichfield City as well!

It depends if the guard would allow it, as trains were still running from tamworth.
As there was an hourly service to Tamworth I would have said he needs a ticket to LIC.

Note: Burton to Lichfield TV is cheaper than a ticket to tamworth.
