I am struggling to understand your requirements as there is no punctuation in your paragraph.

Are you planning a one-way journey from Derby / East Mids Parkway to Cambridge for this coming Saturday (15th)?

Are you leaving at 2250?

I can't imagine there being many options by train at around midnight to Cambridge :?

Buses wise, I think you'd be best getting the Nottingham skylink, but I'm not sure what the best way would be to get back to cambridge would be without staying in a hotel

I've just had a look on National Rail and I can't see how you're going to get back to Cambridge without sleeping on a station/booking a hotel

Even if you got as far as Leicester on the Saturday night; the first direct train from there to Cambridge on a Sunday is 12:15.

Alternatively if you can get to Nottingham, book a room for the night then you could get the 09:52 EMT service to Ely and change there for the 11:58 to Cambridge.

Looking at the shuttle bus times from the Download event it states 30 minutes running time to Derby and 20 minutes running time to East Mids Parkway

An idea is Skylink to Nottingham and then NX at 0300 (service 465) to London in trime for an early coach or train to Cambridge.

Skylink leaves the airport at 10 minutes past the hour. You'd need to be on the 0110 to get the coach. Don't expect to get the first one.

Or Skylink to Loughborough or Leicester then megabus to London and as before. Unfortunately the megabus doesn't go from the centre - in Loughborough it goes from the University at 0240 and in Leicester from Fosse Park at 0305. Tickets to London currently £8.

Skylink from Castle Donington bus station leaves at 45 minutes past the hour.

We went to Donnington to/from Leicester a couple of years ago. Busy but not horrendous - but we were staying Leicester.

I'm used to doing daft journeys overnight - often from Cambridge at around 0300 or the 465 to/from Nottingham to/from just about everywhere else on the route.

I'll be doing one of them from Cambridge this weekend seeing a band that played download last year.
