On my way home this eve while crawling in traffic I saw something interesting passing through Long Eaton station as I was heading towards the line.

I wasn't that close but what I did see was a Freightline HH Class 66, followed by 2 mineral / coal wagons (sorry not that hot on my wagons) then a DMU / EMU of 3 or 4 carriages in a red and grey, and then 2 more wagons.

It would appear to be this working, http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R01427/2016/03/21/advanced

Any idea what the DMU / EMU was? I wasn't close enough to get a detailed look.

Cheers

More than likely a new Gatwick Express Class 387 then by the sounds of it - Red & Grey would be the Gat Ex livery, and Derby to Bletchley would be the transit move before testing and commissioning at Bletchley.

It was a Gatwick Express class 387/2 being taken for acceptance testing on the WCML hauled by a 66 and sandwiched by some coal wagons as translators or brake force runners, probably the latter as there was more than one. Saw it earlier on the goods lines at Derby waiting to leave.

Yes it will have been a new GatEx unit going for acceptance testing out of Bletchley. Interestingly there was a plain white Thameslink unit of the same family [parked up outside the depot this morning.

Are there more of these units to come to Thameslink. I have lost track!

The Thameslink White unit will be at Bletchley for a modification
