I can confirm a derailment has happened. Looks to be just the rear coach that has derailed and it has remained upright

Looks to be the rear of the train again, unless the image is flipped.

What a sad couple of days for the railway, I truly hope there are no injuries.

Rear of the train from the looks of it (or front)

That footbridge in the distance appears to be the one between Wick Lane and Salcott Crescent south of Wickford station and just after the Southminster line has branched off.

Oh no. This is bad on many levels. For the people involved, but also because I imagine the fall-out may simply be cancellation of all services above a certain temperature threshold. Default protection.
I think as soon as an interim report can be made available from RAIB the better. But I agree with your thoughts.

I've also heard another train was involved. We just need to wait for further information to know either way

Yikes I doubt anyone now is questioning all these heat repeatedly cancellations and service changes now, and even with that this type of heat if it's a factor is unprecedented.

Why does the National Rail website say disruption will end at 18:00? Surely it should say 'end of the day' at least..

just a quick look at the photos I can see what looks like relatively fresh ballast which gives immediate food for thought to me

Nothing to suggest so far 1K50 was involved in any other way apart from making the emergency call to report 2K71 has derailed.

2K71 looks to have knocked out one of the OHLE poles, might just be that 1K50 is stopped because the power has been cut off.

The BBC has a live page here in which the BTP have reported no injuries, thankfully, and no mention of a collision either, issuing the following statement:
Officers are currently on scene just south of Wickford railway station in Essex following reports that the rear carriages of a train have derailed in an upright position at 2.12pm today.

"We’re responding alongside paramedics and the fire service. There are currently no reported injuries.

Indeed - unless a train crashed into the back of the derailed train well after the incident (which I am sure would have been reported by now), the photo of the derailed coach should be evidence enough of no other train being involved!

In my opinion it's more likely they stopped and RECed it, and/or got showered in ballast smashing the windscreen as they passed. Thankfully it went down the embankment not into the six foot.
