Just hearing news that 4M28 Southampton to Ditton has become 'completely' derailed at Crewe Basford Hall SS North.
Anyone know what might of caused it?

That's off the main line through the station though, isn't it.
Unless the power needs to be off it should not impact passenger services too much.
Although I see some NT Manchester locals have been cancelled.

Train was reportedly propelling (reversing) into sidings at the time.

Have just got off the 1633 Euston - Preston at Crewe. Left Stafford at 1803 (7 late); came to a halt a couple of signals south of Basford Hall Jn. Sat there for 30", then ran unhindered into Crewe. But nothing - nothing - passed us on the Up and Crewe was busy with passengers, quiet with trains.

Oh dear!

(As we passed B Hall a 66 was leaving southbound on the US; pair of 86s had just arrived from south on DS)

Some trains seem to be diverting via Colwich, including a Liverpool (1F23, 1733 ex Euston).
A lot are still stuck.

Edit: No, didn't divert, just arrived at Lime St 59 late.

Two empty flat wagons have derailed, taking out a complete OHLE gantry /span in the process. It looks like a bit of a mess. I don't know Crewe well enough to tell you which lines, but there look to be probably that are completely blocked.

Are such requests only accepted if Virgin are expected to accept Northern tickets as well?

At 20.00 at Euston the lack of incoming rolling stock was hitting services. Virgin cancelled a Wolverhampton and the 20.30 to Preston. LM were running the 20.13 to Crewe via Trent Valley only as far as Northampton - this was announced as we were sitting ready to depart at 20.13. We were told our tickets were valid on Virgin. So I got off and returned to the concourse, where they were just announcing the platform for the delayed 19.50 Liverpool Lime St, which left about 20.25. It was also carrying passengers for Manchester and Preston (change at Crewe) and Stoke (change Stafford). It was 22 late arriving at Crewe, good running considering it left about 35 late. The departure board at Crewe at 23.00 still had a list of delays and a couple of cancellations.
